About

Until December 2017 I was Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Unity Theatre, Liverpool, leaving to pursue freelance projects, including producing the UK tour of Nina a story about me and Nina Simone. I’m currently working on Horny Handed Tons of Soil (Phrased & Confused / Unity Theatre / Lizzie Nunnery), Cuckoo (Martin Green (of LAU) and LEPUS), When Did You Stop Dancing (What a Little Bird Told Me), Lonely Hearts Club (by Luke Barnes), Raddlesham Mumps (Murray Lachlan Young) as well as developing new work with Nina director Dritero Kasapi, with Arun Ghosh, Jason Singh, Stuart Silver and Fabric Lenny (with Big Imaginations).

Co-productions whilst at Unity included Nina (with Riksteatern), Lampedusa (with Soho Theatre and Hightide), Princess and the Pea, Little Red and the Big Bad Wolf and The Jungle Book (with Action Transport), Bardolph’s Box (with Up The Road Theatre) and Chicken (with Eastern Angles).

Prior to joining Unity I was General Manager of Eastern Angles producing 18 shows for the company which toured into community centres, theatres, supermarket basements, aircraft hangers, railway museums and ancient monuments to name but a few.

As an independent producer I’ve produced the Insulting Cabaret for International Pen/Royal National Theatre and five Phrased & Confused festival stages and two national tours. With Windswept Productions I produced Murray Lachlan Young’s The Incomers (directed by Paul Jepson). I also produced the first UK tour for leading Croatian artists –BadCo and DB indos.

I originally cut my teeth in venues – as Arts Manager of the Michael Tippett Centre (Bath), Arts Co-ordinator (21 South Street) and Director of Phoenix Arts Centre (Leicester).

Operating out of Space Studios (37 Queen Street) in Colchester, I’m a board member of the Mercury Theatre, an associate of the hub and a co-director of Phrased & Confused. When I’m not making creative things happen I’m a passionate (but awful) cricketer who enjoys the odd pint of real ale!
